New 2017 Jeep Compass at Hoffman Automotive Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram for Hagerstown, MD

The five-passenger Jeep Compass has for 2017 tailgate speakers that flip-down as an option, which is super cool when you want to stand out at a tailgate party. But more than that it has so many features that drivers have come to love it's crazy! Also for 2017, there are three drivetrain designs available: the 4x2, the always-on Freedom Drive I (4x4), and the Freedom Drive II (4x4) for truly intense off-road conditions and challenges. Plus, this compact SUV continues to be able to tow 2,000-lbs when properly equipped! The Compass stands out from the crowd with its inherent Jeep sensibility mixed with its on-road competence.

Under the Compass's Hood

Standard on all versions of the Compass are a completely-independent tuned suspension for touring, a tilt steering wheel (a nod to people of different sizes), and the 'Speed Control' cruise control mode. The 2017 Jeep Compass arrives standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that embraces 158 horsepower and 141 pound-feet of torque and is melded to the front-wheel drive set-up. The 2.0-liter in the Latitude is bonded to a continuously variable transmission, and the 5-speed manual transmission (standard) goes standard with a 2.0-liter on the Sport model (or a 6-speed automatic). A 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that rockets up to 172 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque is placed on all-wheel drive models as standard. The Sport version has as an option the Freedom Drive II, that has a crawl mode in its augmented CVT. In Edmunds testing, a 2017 model got from zero to 60 mph in 9.4 seconds, with its AWD and 2.4-liter engine (6-speed transmission). The Compass could tow up to 2,000 pounds when fitted with the right equipment.

Design of Jeep Compass

There are two core trims within the Compass lineup: the Latitude and the Sport. Standard on the Sport is a tilt-only steering wheel, a USB port next to an aux port, Bluetooth phone/audio connectivity, 60/40-split rear seatbacks that fold down, foglights, air-conditioning, cruise control, a 4-speaker sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Latitude core model inherits the Sport's standard features, then installs 17-inch wheels, taps into the features of the Power Value Group, and has a tonneau cover available as part of a package. The Latitude has another version dubbed the 'High Altitude Edition'. The Sport trim has two further versions: the Sport SE or the 75th Anniversary Edition. The Sport SE model has a leather-wrapped steering wheel (with audio controls), a matching gloss-gray body trim, and heated front seats. The High Altitude Edition works well on a beach with its sunroof and leather upholstery. A sunroof is also in the 75th Anniversary package, with four 18-inch bronzed alloy wheels, and a remote engine starter. There's a cargo cover, an informational display, a garage-door opener, and an alarm in the Security and Cargo Convenience Group. Four-wheel drive Compass trims mix nicely with the All-Weather Capability Group. Every single Compass model can also utilize the aptitude of the Freedom Drive II Off-Road Group, which is super valuable when you break down what you are getting for the money. Standard on the inside as well is the popular Uconnect Voice Command with Bluetooth system, which allows SiriusXM Radio (with 1 year trial subscription) and remote USB port for playing or transferring files, and also allows handsfree calling with Address Sync. There is an optional Uconnect brand Wi-Fi internet connection and Wi-Fi hotspot that the dealer can install.
